4. Principles and Practices of Cooperation in Managing International Water

This chapter is a nontechnical introduction to understanding and analyzing cooperation with a focus on international river basins. Starting with several definitions of cooperation, this chapter considers how cooperation succeeds and fails. After reading this chapter you will be familiar with various principles of cooperation, with their strengths and weaknesses, and preview to several examples of river basin where cooperation unfolded or failed.
